Wow. I'm not even sure what to say. This one just left me totally...speechless.
A rollercoaster of emotion, had me crying a few times in so few pages and such wonderful world building and exploration of characters. I've read books in the 2-300 pages length that haven't given me the emotion that this 26 page story did.
Between Alec, the feisty, sex-fuelled vampire; Kai, the 'Nightmare' flame with a heart of gold; and Mama Bennu, the woman with fire, love and compassion, I didn't know where to turn. Every character was a rainbow of emotion, depth and soul, only making this story so much the better.
Now, usually an ending at 90% would have me frustrated or annoyed. But this story was done. This story gave me everything I wanted and needed in the space it took up. It didn't need that extra 10%. But I needed it, to collect myself and finally breathe easy again, after the end of that incredible story.
I will now happily instant-buy anything Deja Black releases in the future. No questions asked.
