This was another excellent story that fitted perfectly into the series. I would be thrilled if there were more, in the future.

Though there are no chapter headings, which is normally a pet hate of mine, I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't care or notice that there were only scene breaks. The fact that they were more than just a line gap, but a proper *** break meant that it was easy enough to spot where one scene broke into the next.

I really liked Carter as a side character in book one, so it was great for him to get his POV in this story and really get to tell his own story of his shadow and how he deals with that. Yet, at the same time, I loved that Mal and Jamison were still big parts of the story, too. It kept the continuity nice and solid, while also keeping the great characters of book 1 in the foreground. The fact that the story picks up almost exactly where book 1 left off (1 month after Carter moves in with Jamison) is also a bonus, because it means that we don't really have to wonder what happened in the period in between.

The fact that we also get Jacobb's POV is slightly terrifying, because I hated knowing what happened to him, but it was also really important to the story, to let us see and experience what he's going through.

Although I found Nelson weirdly interesting in book 1, he really came into his own here. He had a bigger part, more important to the plot, and I loved how that was integrated into the story, along with Mal's friendship with him.

Mal was, again, my favourite character. He's just such a weirdo and a fun, naughty influence that it adds a really nice element to the otherwise serious plot. I love how he was genuinely concerned about Carter, but didn't want to show it, how he was sneaky with his deal over Jacob and that it only proved that he isn't as selfish as everyone thinks he is.

There is nothing explicit in these books, but I love them all the more for it, because the chemistry is charming and sweet, lovely and often more about personality than looks and how well the characters know each other, which is the best kind of romance.

Overall, it was a fantastic addition to the novel and I loved every minute. With another perfect ending, I couldn't have asked for anything more.
