Elaine White's Life in Books

The Author

Elaine White is the author of multi-genre MM romance, celebrating 'love is love' and offering diversity in both genre and character within her stories.

Growing up in a small town and fighting cancer in her early teens taught her that life is short and dreams should be pursued. She lives vicariously through her independent, and often hellion characters, exploring all possibilities within the romantic universe.

The Winner of two Watty Awards – Collector's Dream (An Unpredictable Life) and Hidden Gem (Faithfully) – and an Honourable Mention in 2016's Rainbow Awards (A Royal Craving) Elaine is a self-professed geek, reading addict, and a romantic at heart.

I’m an author and reader, who just can’t get away from books. I discovered the MM genre a few years ago and became addicted.

Midsummer Sky

Midsummer Sky - T.J. Land Again, there's a dual POV, with the addition of Ariel, Oberon's dad, getting his POV.

To add to the BDSM element, there is erotic asphyxia and a rather lazy attempt to add conflict by introducing Oberon's dad, who gives him an incredulously stupid task that he actually begins to see through, while trying to tempt Puck away with an offer of his own. The entry of Bunce into the story could have been interesting if he had actually been a rival to Puck, but the sickeningly sweet bromance that developed between the two let it down, once again.

For the first time in the series, Bunce challenges the casual violence that persists in Puck and Oberon's relationship. He points out that it's not right – for once, showing that it's domestic violence – only for the author to just as casually brush it off as being “what they're like”. As though two violent people coming together and beating the crap out of each other on the regular is normal or acceptable. It's not and it really grates on me that they think it's okay to portray that kind of message in such an off hand manner.

Sadly, it's still that over-indulgent erotic short that has very little to offer in terms of plot.

Favourite Quote

“Puck nodded sagely, only half listening. He was preoccupied in developing a fantasy in which he removed Ariel's teeth and toenails and swapped them around, prior to setting Oberon's new pet on him.”
