The Author

Elaine White is the author of multi-genre MM romance, celebrating 'love is love' and offering diversity in both genre and character within her stories.

Growing up in a small town and fighting cancer in her early teens taught her that life is short and dreams should be pursued. She lives vicariously through her independent, and often hellion characters, exploring all possibilities within the romantic universe.

The Winner of two Watty Awards – Collector's Dream (An Unpredictable Life) and Hidden Gem (Faithfully) – and an Honourable Mention in 2016's Rainbow Awards (A Royal Craving) Elaine is a self-professed geek, reading addict, and a romantic at heart.

For me, this one had a lot of potential, but there are a few things that didn't quite work.

There was too much flipflopping between past and present. The 1st person POV didn't feel like the best fit for the story, because of this. Not only did it read as confusing, but there was a lot of “talking to the reader” to explain things, which is a pet peeve of mine.

The Science Fiction/Space elements were few and far between. This story could easily have just taken place in any ordinary buidling, as there were no real Sci-Fi elements to make it stand out as something otherworldly. It was all very Earth like, from the apartments, the cooking, the weapons and the crime.

There were some parts that were sweet, when the two MC's actually shared a moment, but there wasn't enough to justify a relationship, for me. We didn't get to see any bonding, as it had all happened in the past and there was nothing new, that we could see, that said these two had feelings for each other.

Overall, just not enough chemistry, detail or action for a good Science Fiction story. It was too short to do the characters, idea and concept any justice. Still good, but not as good as it could have been.
