Elaine White's Life in Books

The Author

Elaine White is the author of multi-genre MM romance, celebrating 'love is love' and offering diversity in both genre and character within her stories.

Growing up in a small town and fighting cancer in her early teens taught her that life is short and dreams should be pursued. She lives vicariously through her independent, and often hellion characters, exploring all possibilities within the romantic universe.

The Winner of two Watty Awards – Collector's Dream (An Unpredictable Life) and Hidden Gem (Faithfully) – and an Honourable Mention in 2016's Rainbow Awards (A Royal Craving) Elaine is a self-professed geek, reading addict, and a romantic at heart.

I loved Will and Quinn. They were the warm marshmallows on the top of your hot chocolate – the perfect addition to an already heartwarming story that made it feel like home.

The presentation was beautiful, from the cover to the formatting, the clear, simple text and the lovely chapter headers and scene dividers. A lot of attention was put into making this pretty and it was absolutely a success.

The insides are just as pretty as the presentation. Right from the start, with Quinn's choir singing 'O Holy Night' (which I totally heard in Mariah Carey's voice – sorry, not sorry!) I was sucked into the Christmas mood. Snow? Check. Church? Check. Choir? Check. It had everything Christmassy that I could have asked for. From the intriguing, dramatic start to the sweet, surprising end I didn't put the book down once.

I loved that Quinn was all parts of everything – French, Creole, Scottish, Irish – and how we saw hints of that in his accent and how he behaved, as well as throughout this family. I also loved that what Will loved most about him was how nice and kind he was; not that he was different or feisty, just that he was a nice guy and his personality shone through, even above and beyond his good looks.

One thing missing? I would have loved it to go on a little longer. But, I got what I needed and that's good enough.

I could gush for ages, but I'm getting distracted by Mariah singing, so let's leave it at this →
Do you want a Christmas story that will warm your heart, make you cry and smile and give you the feels from October to December? Then read it. This is one Christmas story I'll be picking up year after year. On a cold winter night, with a snuggly blanket, a hot chocolate and some of those melting marshmallows to top it all off.

“And then a single voice, male, clear, powerful, and impossibly sweet, rose over the rest in a solo that sent a shudder through Will's heart: “Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices...”
Will took his frozen hands from his jeans pockets, put his striped wool scarf over his face, and started to cry.”
